The Base Medical Wilderness Medicine Program
The Base Medical Wilderness Medicine Program aims to eliminate the geophysical, financial, time, and curriculum barriers that exist with traditional delivery methods. All Base Medical course delivery methods contain an online standardized lesson component. The Base Medical Education Center and instructors provide the hands-on training component.
To offer a course, simply fill out our course registration form to receive a course sign up link to share with students. When registering a course, you can select curriculum for the general lay community, search and rescue, or for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Then deliver your training! Base Medical will invoice your organization after the start of the course. We charge a fee per student that varies based on certification level.

Wilderness First Aid
Online Lessons: 8-10 hours, asynchronous. Includes epinephrine administration. CPR is an additional option.
Practical Training: Minimum 8 hours in-person (may be longer if instructor desires)
Per Student Fee: $65

Wilderness First Responder
Online Lessons: 22 hours, asynchronous. Includes Epinephrine Administration, Medical Oxygen Administration, BLS airway including BVM, and basic Search and Rescue training. Wilderness CPR is an option
Practical Training: Minimum 45 hours in-person with a Base Medical Certified Instructor licensed at the EMT level or above. (training hours may be longer due to instructor customization.)
Per Student Fee: $125 ($85 for WFR Recert)

Online Lessons: 12 hours, asynchronous. Includes epinephrine administration. Wilderness CPR is an additional option.
Practical Training: Minimum 8 hours in-person (may be longer if instructor desires)

Wilderness First Aid in American Sign Language
Online Lessons: 4 hours, asynchronous.
Practical Training: Minimum 16 hours in-person (may be longer if instructor desires)
Per Student Fee: $45
If interpreters are used, interpreters must have their Wilderness Medicine Interpreter Certification.

Wilderness CPR
Base Medical has partnered with the American Red Cross to provide high quality CPR education. Base Medical Wilderness CPR program is in alignment with the Wilderness Medical Society’s guidelines and is tailored for SAR and wilderness medical providers.

SAR Wilderness First Responder
Online Lessons: 22 hours, asynchronous. Includes Epinephrine Administration, Medical Oxygen Administration, BLS airway including BVM, long term patient care, expanded hypothermia model, and Wilderness CPR.
Practical Training: Minimum 45 hours in-person with a Base Medical Certified Instructor licensed at the EMT level or above. (training hours may be longer due to instructor customization.)

Affordable
Base Medical charges the organization a nominal fee per student that varies per certification level. The current per student fees are:
WFA - $65. WFR - $125 WFR Recert - $85

Organizations set their own training schedule. Courses may be scheduled, rescheduled, postponed, or cancelled independently of Base Medical. Courses can be customized based on the organizations unique needs.

Our hybrid delivery model ensures that every student receives high quality education and meets defined competencies and objectives. All courses contain an online lesson component. The Base Medical Education Center provides the hands-on training.

In addition to the standardized core curriculum, instructors can use elective curriculum topics to customize a course to meet student and organization needs. For SAR teams, we offer a SAR WFA and WFR tailored to responders.

Organizations can opt to offer courses to the public at market value, which averages at about $250 USD. Many Base Medical Certified Education Centers leverage the Base Medical program for fundraising or generating capital.

What is the cost to become an education center?

To become an education center, you will need to train an individual within your organization as a Base Medical instructor. This costs $35 per candidate. There is an additional annual registration and licensing fee of $300.
How do I get started?

Getting started is simple. Identify who within your organization qualifies as an instructor candidate. Candidates must have at least a WFR certification. Once you identified, share this webpage here so they can apply and get started. Once they complete their instructor training, you can register as an Education Center and begin offering courses.
How do I train more in-house instructors to grow our program?

Easy! Your members can simply apply as candidates any time and begin their instructor training.
How can we offer CPR and what is wilderness CPR?

We offer CPR and BLS through our partnership with the American Red Cross. Instructors will need to become American Red Cross instructors as well. The online content of the American Red Cross courses are offered on our platform alongside our online wilderness medicine courses. Wilderness CPR is a course developed in partnership with the American Red Cross that addresses the unique differences and considerations of delivering CPR in the wilderness setting. This includes hypothermia, avalanche burial, AED use and more.
Are there any other fees associated with delivering a course?

Not from the Base Medical side! We charge a per student fee plus state sales tax. It is up to you if you wish to pay your instructors and you will need to purchase and maintain course gear. We have made purchasing and maintaining course gear easy and affordable.
