We’re in the process of becoming a Base Medical Education Center and are identifying qualified team members to train as wilderness medicine instructors. This program allows our organization to deliver standardized wilderness medicine training in-house, on our schedule, with predictable costs.
To qualify, candidates must hold a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification to teach WFA, and an EMT license or higher to teach WFR.

Candidates must complete the online pedagogy lessons, the wilderness medicine instructor course (which includes a medical competency exam), and prepare a mock course prior to attending an in-person or virtual mentorship. Following the mentorship, candidates will receive an evaluation. Those who pass will be granted access to the instructor certification exam and, upon completion, may begin teaching as fully certified Base Medical instructors.
-
The length of candidate training is dependent on when they receive their mentorship course. We offer a virtual mentorship once a month. Candidates can be fully trained as instructors in a little as a few weeks.
